Palazzo Cocchi Donati Serristori is a historic building located in the famous Piazza Santa Croce, just opposite the worldwide-famous Basilica of Santa Croce. With the building’s original design drafted by the personal architect of Lorenzo de Medici, this cube-shaped building has an elegant façade, the result of transformations over several centuries, and the building sits situated on the exact spot of the city walls dating from1173-1175, as commemorated by the cornerstone of the ancient Porta San Simone to the side of the building. Inside lies a chapel decorated with paintings and stucco and in the stairwell some Eighteenth Century frescoes. The Council Room is located downstairs. A special feature of this building is the outside door leading out onto Via dell’Anguillara 2, which, because of its small size, inspired an episode of the comic Dylan Dog.
